DEMOCRATIC ENDORSEMENTS FOR CHATHAM TOWN COUNCIL—2013

Chatham’s Democratic Caucus has unanimously nominated Landra Haber of North Chatham and Kandace Eaton of Old Chatham to run for the two town council positions that are up for election this year. The two candidates are experienced campaigners and have backgrounds more aligned with the Democratic ideals of good governance and community.

Kandace Eaton, a retired teacher served as her Teacher Association President. In that capacity she gained a wealth of hands on experience listening, negotiating, and accomplishing through team work what goes into balancing funding/revenue levels needed to meet the program needs, keeping and sustaining competent staff, while not over burdening the tax payer. Ms. Eaton is also an active community volunteer, including serving as a 4H leader, working with Freedom Guide dogs and judging at the Columbia County Fair.

In the candidate’s own words, “I believe that I have a lot to offer the Town of Chatham. I want the opportunity to represent the residents of this community. We have a unique community and I have the skills needed to develop and implement plans that will help plan for future needs while preserving our uniqueness. I look forward to speaking to members of the community”.

Landra Haber has a history of public service. Landra worked with the Mental Health Association of New York State and CASA Advocates for Children in Albany. However, Landra’s strongest credential is her 13 years of public service as an Ichabod Crane School Board member.

Landra describes her experience, “I learned the intricacies of budgeting and policy, came to understand the necessity of long-term planning, and learned how important it is to keep working on an issue until its resolution. I also realized the necessity of working collaboratively. When people listen to each other with respect, solutions can almost always be found”.
